Visualizing educational data for the National Assessment of Educational Progress

Informativity had an opportunity to envision how the National Assessment of Educational Progress ('The Nation's Scorecoard') might use data visualization techniques to showcase educational data when we were invited to support a proposal by Measured Progress to oversee the assessment program.

A variety of approaches were considered, and of those, 8 concepts were selected for development into more complete mockups to accompany the proposal.

Circular relationship diagram to portray relationships between states and subjects.
An eclectic but interrelated look at facets of the data picture for any given subject.
Brushing and linking is used to highlight individual line graphs for each state. Details below the divider contribute to a broad picture of the state performance in comparison with other states and the nation.
An idea to facilitate parameter selection for quick exploration of major aspects of the dataset.
